First-run setup

Applies to Workletto 1.x.

The first time you open a new install, you see a setup page instead of a sign-in page. You use it once, to create the first admin account.

The first-run setup screen: setup code, your name, email, password and organization name

Only someone with your setup code can create the first admin account, so nobody else can claim your new app. Until that account exists, the app shows only the setup page; once it exists, the setup page doesn’t appear again.

  1. Open your app’s address. The page is headed Set up.
  2. Fill in the form:
    • Setup code. On Render, Render made it for you: click Open Render to copy your setup code, then click the copy icon next to SETUP_CODE on that page. On another host, it’s the one from the Deploy My App page. With Docker Compose, it’s the SETUP_CODE in your .env file.
    • Organization name. Your company or studio, up to 100 characters. It becomes the name on the sign-in page and at the top of the app’s sidebar, and the name printed on your invoices. You can change it later.
    • Your name.
    • Email. You sign in with this address.
    • Password. From 10 to 128 characters. Anything else gets “Choose a password of 10 to 128 characters.”
  3. Click Create admin account.

You are signed in straight away and land on the Time page. From now on, your app’s address shows the sign-in page.

  • “One more step at your host.” The install has no usable setup code: SETUP_CODE is missing or shorter than 16 characters. Add it in your host’s settings, redeploy, and reload the page. On Render, the page has a button that opens the right settings page; add SETUP_CODE there and click Save, rebuild, and deploy.
  • “That setup code is not correct.” Copy it again from where it’s kept (on Render, the Environment page) rather than typing it.
  • “Too many attempts. Wait 15 minutes and try again.” The page limits wrong guesses. Wait, then try again.

Open Manage at the bottom of the sidebar. Only admins see everything there.

  • Settings. Check your Currency before you enter any rates, because rates, budgets, expenses and invoices all use it (a client can be billed in another currency later). Changing it later doesn’t convert amounts you have already entered, and once there are invoices or expenses it can’t be changed. Add your Company address, which is printed on invoices. Set an App name if you want the app to call itself something other than your organization’s name. See Brand your app.
  • Appearance. Upload a logo (PNG, JPEG or WebP, up to 1 MB), choose an accent color, and choose System, Light or Dark mode. Everyone in your organization sees it.
  • Security & data. Shows where your data is stored, who can sign in, and which outside services the app connects to. You can use it to check what the security page on this site says.

Then invite your team or track your first hours.
